Holiday gift for your car

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

Your car doesn’t ask for much. It’s always there for you, getting you where you need to go. A little extra care this holiday season in the form of an oil change, tune-up and basic service is the perfect gift for the one who keeps you going.

The Car Care Council recommends you take the following preventive maintenance steps:

  • Change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles or three months, or per the owner’s manual. Periodic oil and filter changes keep your engine clean on the inside.
  • Check the tire pressure at least monthly, including the spare. Your car’s tires affect its ride, handling, traction and safety.
  • Schedule a tune-up annually to optimize your car’s performance. A well-tuned engine delivers the best balance of power and fuel economy and produces the lowest level of emissions.
  • Have the alignment checked at least annually. Potholes and other road conditions, as well as normal wear, can take their toll on your car’s steering and suspension. A wheel alignment reduces tire wear, improves fuel economy and handling, and increases driving enjoyment and safety.
  • Inspect the windshield wipers and lights on the car. Lights and wipers play a major role in safe driving, and they are normal wear items that need periodic replacement.

Keeping your family safe on the road

If you do not know how to upkeep your vehicle let a professional do this for you. Let us help you make sure that your car is ready for the road.

Deep down you know your car should be checked before hitting the road, but with so many other things to do, some folks put it off. Bad idea, says the Car Care Council, an automotive consumer education group, especially when motorists don’t realize that in as little as 10 minutes, they can determine if their car is ready for long-distance travel.

Check all fluids, including engine oil, power steering and brake and transmission, as well as windshield washer solvent and antifreeze/coolant.

Check the hoses and belts that can become cracked, brittle, frayed, lose or show signs of excessive wear. These are critical to the proper functioning of the electrical system, air conditioning, power steering and the cooling system.

Check the tires, including tire pressure and tread. Uneven wear indicates a need for wheel alignment. Tires should also be checked for bulges and bald spots.

How to find an honest mechanic.

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

The reason we write this in our blog is because we have the clear conscious to talk about the truth.  Finding an honest mechanic is hard to do these days. We have heard our parents tell us to find a good mechanic and stick with them. The question is how do you find one? There is no trick to it.  An honest mechanic will listen to you and give you the best advice. A thief mechanic will only listen to your problem and then add more problems. An oil change will go from 39.99 to a problem “they discovered” that will cost 399.99 or more.

We are not saying that an honest mechanic will never see a bigger problem than what you see but they will give you options. A thief mechanic will only give you one way to do it and that is the high dollar way.

You may be asking? How is an honest mechanic suppose to make money to stay in business? The answer is simple. The more people we are honest with the more they will recommend us to others which will create more customer traffic for us. The mechanic who is out to get your money will only have about 4 customers a week and that is why they are  trying to suck every penny out of you. You know, just in case no one recommends them.

PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC VS “A FRIEND”

PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC VS YOUR FRIEND

We all know someone who will charge cheaper than the professional mechanic shop. What are the pros in  hiring a professional mechanic and the cons to hiring your friend.

PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC-will  guarantee their work, buy auto parts at a cheaper cost making the job affordable,  have a quality team by his side to help him with the details, they have all the tools necessary for harder jobs, computerized machines that connect to the vehicle for advanced diagnostics, everyday experience, and a huge radio for happy tunes.

YOUR FRIEND- if it does not get done right the first time he may not have time again to rebuild it, higher cost due to a lack of tools and may need to buy tools and he will keep them afterwards, he is a lone ranger with no team by his side, will pay full retail price and then charge you extra for gas for getting to the auto store, he may not have the latest updates on computerized equipment or may not have a 20,000 dollar piece of equipment that talks to your vehicle, and he may only have a tiny radio leading to frustrating hearing. Remember, hiring a friend or family to do business with you may end up costing you more money in the long run.

Compensation for their expertise

This is why some jobs are more costly than others. This is anywhere and we have researched prices all over the DFW metroplex starting from Waxahachie, Red Oak, Dallas, Ennis to Corsicana, and Richardson. Sure, you may say that you can go down the street to the automotive store and get the car part you are needing for only 20 dollars. But to get to that part that is under your hood it will cost you 3 hours or more. If you are not a specialized mechanic and you decide to pull everything out from under the hood and cannot put it back together, chances are you are going to be stuck and so is your car. On the parking lot.
When an automotive center such as ourselves, located in Waxahachie, TX, offers you multiple services they know what they are talking about, especially when they have been around for over 30 years. That’s us.

JOKE OF THE DAY

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

There was a crowd of bees flying around one day. These bees were most peculiar. They were powered by gasoline, rather than the allergenic goodies that bees usually eat. As the crowd flew along, periodically a bee or two would start to sputter; it would fly down to a gas station, drink up the gas spilled in fueling a car, and then fly up and rejoin the crowd.
One bee began to sputter a little, but flew right by an open gas station. As he passed the second station, he coughing badly, but still he flew on. Finally, as he was on his last fumes, he dove down to a station and gassed up.
When he rejoined the crowd, his neighbor challenged him:
“Look, you passed right by an open station when you started to get low.  You passed another station when you were perilously low. And finally, you ran out of gas just in time to glide into that last station. Are you crazy?”
He replied, “Well, it’s like this. The first station was a Gulf station. I really don’t like Gulf at all. The second station was a Texaco station. That’s even worse. But the third station was an Esso station. Let me tell you, Esso is my brand of gasoline. You know what they say don’t you? …

There’s an Esso Bee in every crowd!”

More automotive humor ‘Tip for Staying Awake’

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

Tech support people like me spend our days on the phone with customers. Many like to chat while waiting for their computers to reboot. One man told me he’d been a long-haul truck driver.

I’d love to drive a big rig,” I said, “but I’d worry about falling asleep at the wheel.”

“Here’s a tip to stay awake,” he offered. “Put a $100 bill in your left hand and hold it out the window.”

If Microsoft were GM

Microsoft should make cars, GM should make software:
At a recent computer expo, Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated: “If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving twenty-five dollar cars that got 1000 miles to the gallon.”
In response to Bill’s comments, General Motors issued a press release stating the following: “If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would be driving cars with the following characteristics:

For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day.

Every time they repainted the lines on the road, you would have to buy a new car.

Occasionally, your car would die on the freeway for no reason, and you would accept this, restart, and drive on.

Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart; in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.

Only one person at a time could use the car, unless you bought ‘Car95′ or ‘CarNT.’ Then you would have to buy more seats.

Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was more reliable, five times as fast, and twice as easy to drive, but would only run on five percent of the roads.

The oil, water, temperature and alternator warning lights would be replaced by a single ‘general car fault’ warning light.

New seats would force everyone to have the same back-end size.

The airbag system would say ‘Are you sure?’ before going off.

Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

GM would require all car buyers to also purchase a deluxe set of Rand McNally road maps (now a GM subsidiary), even though they neither need them nor want them. Attempting to delete this option would immediately cause the car’s performance to diminish by 50 per cent or more.

Every time GM introduced a new model, car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.

You’d press the ‘Start’ button to shut off the engine.
