I want to tell you a story that I think the whole world should hear. This is a story of kindness and generosity. You hear about examples every day, but seldom do they impact your life directly. My sister called me and informed me that her brakes were not doing well. They were barely stopping her car. The car has 180,000 miles on it. I don't know if these were still her original brakes, but they were completely gone. She didn't have money to pay for them so, she called me to see if I could help. She thought that the job might be somewhere in the $600 range. I told her to take it to a mechanic and have the mechanic call me to validate that I could pay for it over the phone. So, she took it to Pete's Tire & Automotive Service in Waxahachie Texas. Pete’s Tire & Automotive Service | Facebook. She explained to them that she didn't have much money to spend and that I might need to pay for it for her via credit card over the phone. She asked if she could even do just the front brakes now and possibly do the rear later. I was a bit concerned with that approach because if you didn't do the rear soon then the front brakes would wear out faster. Anyway, I spoke to the manager at Peet's and discussed the situation with him. He had looked at the car by this point and let me know everything that was wrong. We talked about some options, but I explained that I wanted her to be safe and so even though it was going to hurt me I gave him the go-ahead to do the entire $1,000 brake job. He thought that they might have the job done by the next day. But the next day came and went and I didn't hear anything. I began to grow a bit concerned because I thought it might be a sign that there were other things wrong that they discovered, and it was going to cost me even more money. Well, that turned out not to be the case at all. After two days of working on the car the manager called me with a great big surprise. He said that they had discussed our situation with the owner and that he agreed to donate all the parts for the job to us free of charge. I was shocked. I've never heard of any mechanic doing anything of this nature before. But that wasn't the end. He proceeded to inform me that the mechanic then donated his time to do the complete installation for us free of charge. You can imagine my amazement. I'm there on the phone with him waiting for him to tell me what my total is and of course I'm quite a bit confused because he's telling me that they donated the parts and the labor. So, at this point I don't know what to expect or even say. So, I proceeded to question him and kind of validate what he was saying to me was exactly what I was hearing. And it turns out that my ears did not deceive me. They donated all the parts and the labor for my sister's $1,000 break job to our amazement. Let me just tell you that I pretty much broke down in tears. I work at a hospital system and was going to another building on campus but by the time I got there my eyes were full of tears, tears of joy. I had to stop at the reception desk to explain the situation so that they didn't think something was wrong with me. Anyway, our conversation concluded with him explaining that she also needed two tires and that they had even been gracious enough to donate the labor for them. All that I had to pay was the cost of the tires which came out to a measly $218. I was so happy I didn't know what to do with myself. but all I can tell you is that I have never personally experienced such kindness and generosity in my life. This really made my day and especially my sisters. We were both in tears. I want to extend a special thanks to the owner, the manager and all the employees at Pete's Tire & Automotive in Waxahachie Texas who participated in such a generous gift to myself and my sister. I literally cannot thank them enough. I think this is a feel-good story that I wouldn't mind if the entire world heard about. We hear about stories of generosity every day, but I think this one that really should be recognized.
